LeXICON by SPINOFF Entrepreneurship Centre will offer young aspiring entrepreneurs, a variety of training programmes that will allow the students to learn about practicing, failing forward, innovating, sustaining and scaling their businesses. The first programme in this training series is “Introduction to Entrepreneurship”. It is a 15-Week, 4 credit, blended learning module that Singapore Polytechnic currently offers to all of its full-time students and part-time adult learners in Singapore. Young aspiring entrepreneurs are encouraged to work in teams and each team is mentored by practitioners with deep knowledge and experience in starting up and scaling up businesses.

By tackling real-world problem statements, students evaluate their business savviness and commitment to successfully sustain and scale their entrepreneurial ventures. The Introduction to Entrepreneurship programme is delivered using BLENDED LEARNING – a combination of tutorials, directed learning and online learning. Using Design Thinking (Empathy, Ideation and Prototype), students identify a real world problem statement and look at the possibility of turning this into an opportunity. Online tutorials then guide the teams on applying the concept of a Lean Startup (Build, Measure, Learn and Pivot) to their business model. Weekly face to face mentoring sessions conducted by trained faculty (“Mentors”) from the partner university further guide the students on their entrepreneurial journey. The programme is highly experiential in nature and will comprises of research, fieldwork and interaction with external stakeholders relevant to the project of students’ choice. Within 15-weeks, it will guide students from the ideation stage to the final demo day where students are required to pitch their business models and product prototypes to potential investors.
